How do I get approved for a puppy and what is the process?

We require a completed puppy application first. Please complete the Puppy Application directly on our website. Once your application is approved, I require a FaceTime video call.

Do you have a waiting list?

Yes! We offer a waiting list for families who are flexible on gender and color and are simply looking for the right healthy baby to join their family. A $500 non-refundable deposit is required to join our waiting list and will be applied toward your puppy once you make your selection. I accept Zelle or cash. Do the puppies come with AKC registration?

Yes! All our puppies are AKC. We will send you home with the AKC number for your new baby so you can register the puppy. We will send you an email to complete AKC registration. PLEASE take advantage of the awesome AKC insurance. https://www.akcpetinsurance.com/

Do puppies come vaccinated and dewormed?

Yes! All puppies go home with their first set of age-appropriate vaccinations and are health checked by my veterinarian before going home. I deworm the puppies at 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks old.Your puppy will also go home with a vaccination and deworming record to take to your veterinarian. I recommend bringing a stool sample to your puppy’s first veterinary appointment to determine whether any additional deworming is needed.

What should we bring on pickup day for traveling home?

I recommend bringing potty pads for the trip home so your puppy does not have to be placed on public grass before completing their puppy vaccination series. Please also bring water, a small water bowl, and a safe, secure place for your puppy to ride, such as a crate or dog car seat.We will not release a puppy to someone we have not met. Families are welcome to pick their puppy up from our home. Delivery or meeting arrangements may also be available for an additional fee. We can also arrange to meet at DFW Airport for an additional fee. Please contact me ahead of time to discuss travel arrangements.

What size collar do I need?

You don't need to purchase one right away! All of our puppies go home with a collar that should last for quite a while. Your puppy will also go home with a blanket, toys, chews, and food to help make the transition to their new home a little easier.

Does my puppy come with insurance?

Accepted Answer

Yes! When you complete your puppy’s AKC registration, you may be eligible for 30 days of complimentary pet insurance through AKC. Please review the current AKC enrollment information for coverage details and eligibility.

Is there a written health guarantee?

Yes! Every Saginaw Dachshunds puppy goes home with a written health guarantee and puppy sales agreement. Please visit our Our Contract page to read the complete health guarantee, requirements, exclusions, and terms.

Question 9

What potty training have the puppies started?

We begin potty training our puppies at approximately 4–5 weeks old using a faux-grass potty tray.When your puppy comes home, remember that giving them too much freedom too quickly can lead to more accidents. While you're home, take your puppy to their potty area frequently—about every 30 minutes to an hour at first.Consistency and patience are key. Every puppy learns at their own pace, and dachshunds can sometimes take a little extra patience when it comes to potty training!

What food are the puppies eating and how much?

Our puppies are free-fed while they are with us. We feed Royal Canin in our home.We recommend quality puppy foods, including Royal Canin, Fromm, and Open Farm. We also use Grizzly Salmon Oil.Your puppy will go home with Royal Canin so you can continue feeding what they are accustomed to. If you decide to change foods, I recommend making the transition gradually to help prevent an upset tummy.

What treats do you prefer?

One of my favorites is Virbac C.E.T. HEXtra dental chews. I actually prefer the larger size because they last longer, and dachshunds can be serious chewers! Always supervise your puppy or dog with chews and choose an appropriate chew based on their age and chewing habits.
